This is one of the main autochthonous species from the river Nera which has clear, oxygenated water with a strong current and rocky or pebbly bottom. The fish has a long, compressed body covered with small, round, black and red spots. The Valnerina not only is the home of the rare species of trout, Fario, but also of the rainbow trout which is easy to breed, as it adapts and grows easily and has a more delicate flavour than the Fario trout.
